Water and Love

Poetry

Thanks to the Dominica Cultural Divison for continuing to hold the annual Independence Literary Competition. My poem Water and Love placed 3rd in the 2015 English Poetry Competition. Check the link for all the winners and runners up in the various categories. The latest version of the poem is below.

Water—Love
Water
rained relentless rivers rolling rooted rocks;
tefnut trickles to torrent taking trunks trash
down
stream
damming…stopping…flow.

Rising.
Rising.
Rising.
Banks burst, boulders break bridges.

Water—free flowing flash flooding—
flushing.

Water—coursing, crushing, cracking—
clearing.

Forcing
us to search solemnly
for lost life, loves, values
in rubble.

Sometimes too,
we flood
sensitive souls;
unleash boulders
damning free
spirits.

Love
can also flow over our
wretched hearts
like raging river over
rocks—
clearing debris down
stream
from cracks.
